My Bachelor's degree is in Radio, Television and Film, as I was convinced that I wanted to be a producer on Sesame Street. That changed when I entered graduate school and earned a Master's degrees in Interpersonal Communication and went to work with teenagers in foster care. Although I learned a lot, my heart was in research, so I earned a PhD in Human Development & Family Studies. Because of my work with foster care, I studied perpetrators of domestic abuse. I was fortunate to serve as a Research Assistant on several projects funded by the Department of Defense (DoD) and by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). After completing my degree, I became a faculty member at TWU and decided I needed a change. Now I am using my background in communications, as my research focuses on communication in marriage and family - more specifically, fathers' communication with their children.
