Biography

Mary Thompson, PT, PhD, GCS, is a Professor and Post-Professional Program Coordinator in the School of Physical Therapy at Texas Woman's University. Her edcational background includes the study of physical therapy with an emphasis in Geriatrics, aging studies, and higher education. Dr. Thompson's professional experience has focused primarily on work with older adults in home health, skilled nursing facilities, and hospice. Her almost 30 years as an educator in physical therapy have focused on helping students at all levels achieve their career goals in a dynamic, ever-changing health care environment. Dr. Thompson is guided by the belief that people - patients and students alike - learn best by doing, and thus she incorporates experiential service-learning and interprofessional education in non-clinical courses. Her service philosophy involves integration and relationship building with colleagues, community and the profession of physical therapy at the national level. Dr. Thompson believes that small acts of kindness can transform society and everyone needs to do his or her part.
