Biography

I started teaching as a clinical adjunct in TWU’s Dental Hygiene Program in 2008, and the many opportunities and experiences gained through this process expanded and enriched my knowledge and skills. In the fall of 2014, I was offered a full time visiting position as Assistant Clinical Professor, Senior Clinic Coordinator. The last three years as a full-time faculty have enabled me to grow not only in my teaching ability, but my experience being a faculty member on the university level. The opportunities I have gained through teaching, scholarship and service are more than I ever thought I would have accomplished when I started this adventure nine years ago. Under the mentorship of Christine French Beatty, Lizabeth Spoonts and Trisha Nunn I have grown richly.
In 2015, I applied and was hired as a permanent Assistant Clinical Professor, Senior Clinic Coordinator. As I start my fourth year in this position and I look back on the last several years, I am amazed how much I have learned not only as an educator but as a clinician. These last few years have allowed me to expand my knowledge exponentially, and in return share that knowledge with both students and my peers.

This summer, 2017 I was offered the position of TWU’s Dental Hygiene Program Director. Again, I was honored and excited to accept the responsibility that the director position would hold. I have maintained a current clinical license to practice dental hygiene since graduating in 1993, and I utilize that license in practice when time allows. I worked full or half time up until I started full time at TWU in 2012. Since then I have worked in a select few offices that I maintain a wonderful and strong work relationship. I feel it is important as a clinical educator to keep up with clinical skills.
