Biography
Tamby Allman is a professor and the graduate advisor for the M.S.Education of the Deaf program. She spent her career teaching students of all ages as a teacher of the deaf and literacy coordinator for a large deaf education program in Chicago. She earned her doctorate in reading and language at National-Louis University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy, assessment and strategies for supporting language. She is the Project Director for Project EPIC, a five-year grant funded from the Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Project EPIC is an interdisciplinary grant to equip future teachers of the deaf and SLPs with practices to improve the academic outcomes for school-aged students who are DHH. Her research includes strategies teachers use to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in general education classrooms, assessment in the 21st century, and online literacy learning. She works as a consultant and supports teachers in several regional programs.
