Biography

Dr. Gwendolyn M. Weatherford serves as the Director of Sport Management overseeing the undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs within the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology at TWU. She has accumulated 17 years' experience in higher education by serving in academic leader roles including program Director and Coordinator and Graduate Coordinator, and leader roles in sport holding head coaching positions at NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions. Other leader roles include the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Kinesiology Curricula Workgroup; Faculty Senate; Athletic Council; Research Support; Advisor to the Office of Leadership, Engagement, and Development; university Strategic Planning Task Force; Honors Thesis; Graduate Council Dissertation; and Student Service Fee committees. Additionally, she served as a reviewer for the International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing, International Journal of Sport Communication, North American Society for Sport Management, National Association for Sport and Physical Education, Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, Quest, and Athletic Insight. Her research efforts comprise matters relative to advocating for access and equality in sport and higher education sport management programs.
