Description

Irish women have used their dance practices to further movements for women's rights and grapple with the trauma of gender-based oppression. Join us as Dr. Kathryn Holt, Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership, shares her research with us. Dr. Holt holds a Ph.D. in Dance Studies from the Ohio State University, where her dissertation research focused on dance and the politics of womanhood in Ireland and the Irish diaspora. Dr. Holt is also a trained Irish dancer whose embodied experiences of Irish dance deeply inform her scholarship. In this talk, Dr. Holt will share her research on the role Irish women dancers and choreographers play in political movements surrounding women's rights.
